NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD said a woman was stabbed to death near an Astoria diner on New Year's Day in what's reported to be the first homicide of 2022.
According to police, officers responded to a call of an assault in the vicinity of 23 Street and Broadway in Astoria at around 8:35 p.m. on Saturday.
Upon arrival, officers found a female victim with multiple stab wounds lying unconscious and unresponsive on the sidewalk.
EMS transported the victim to Astoria General Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing. The victim remains unidentified at this time.
