NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police arrested a would-be assassin on Wednesday who planned a Midtown Manhattan hit with undercover FBI agents, according to the Department of Justice.
Hyunkook Korsiak, 41, planned to kill an imaginary businessman at the behest of the FBI agents over the course of the past two months, according to officials.
The agents promised Korsiak $50,000 for the hit. Korsiak said he had weapons and requested silencers as well as a latex mask to subvert facial recognition.
He allegedly told agents he planned to shoot the victim from inside a car and use a police uniform to evade arrest after the hit.
Messages expressing interest in murder for hire were first intercepted by the Bureau of Prisons. It’s unclear if Korsiak was in prison at the time, but he does have a felony conviction from a 2017 theft.
“Hyunkook Korsiak agreed to murder another person for the price of $50,000,” said U.S. Attorney Damian Williams. “Thanks to the work of our remarkable law enforcement partners, Korsiak now stands charged in federal court for his alleged role in this terrible crime.”
Prosecutors charged him with one count of murder-for-hire and one count of firearm possession as a felon. He faces up to 25 years in prison if sentenced on both counts.
