HICKSVILLE, N.Y. (WCBS 880) – A 23-year-old woman was arrested Thursday after police said she scuffled with employees at a Long Island 7-Eleven—punching one in the eye—before running off with part of a cash register in a chaotic robbery.
Joann Wax, of Hicksville, was nabbed in the chaotic robbery at the 7-Eleven on East Old Country Road in Hicksville shortly before 7 p.m., Nassau County police said Friday.
A 63-year-old man called 911 to report the robbery Thursday evening.
When officers arrived at the store, they were told that a woman had grabbed cash from an employee's hand and that two workers confronted her, leading to a physical altercation.
During a struggle, the woman punched a 43-year-old worker in his eye, police said.
She then reached into her purse, claimed she had a weapon and told both employees she would shoot them, according to police.
The woman then fled the store on foot with a cash register drawer, police said.
The worker who was punched in the eye was evaluated and refused medical attention.
Officers used video surveillance to identify Wax, and she was arrested a short time later, according to police.
She was charged with robbery, assault, menacing and grand larceny. Police said she'd be arraigned "when medically practical."
