NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- An 80-year-old man was stabbed to death by his adult grandson on Long Island Monday evening, police said.

John Pilgrim was at his home on Hounslow Road, near Lawrence Road, in Shirley around 7:45 p.m. when his grandson stabbed him, according to Suffolk County police.

The grandson, Christopher Clarke, 34, then fled the scene on foot, police said.

Pilgrim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Suffolk County medical examiner.

Police located Clarke about two hours later at the Mastic–Shirley Long Island Rail Road station a mile away from the home.

Clarke, of Brooklyn, was charged with second-degree murder. He was schedule to be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Central Islip.
