VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A Long Island man died at a hospital, two weeks after he was attacked with a machete at a laundromat, Nassau County police said Wednesday.
Michael Oliver, 58, was pronounced dead at a hospital on Tuesday, according to police.
Oliver, of Hempstead, died two weeks after the March 14 machete attack at Laundry Palace on West Merrick Road in Valley Stream.
Police allege he was attacked by Roberto Velasquez, 30, during a confrontation at the business around 2 a.m.
During the dispute, Velasquez brandished a machete and struck Oliver “numerous times,” leaving him hospitalized in critical condition.
Velasquez was arrested shortly after the attack on charges of second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault.
Police didn’t immediately indicate Wednesday if or when they would upgrade charges in the case.
