NEPTUNE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (1010 WINS) — One person is dead, two were injured and a fourth was arrested after a car crash during a police chase in New Jersey, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Lori Linskey announced Tuesday.

Just after 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, officers were responding to a 911 call of shots fired on Atkins Ave. in Asbury park, authorities said.
When the cops arrived, they saw a vehicle leaving the scene and allegedly attempted to make a traffic stop. The vehicle drove off and crashed less than a mile away around Washington and Myrtle Avenues in Neptune Township, officials said.
Two of the vehicle’s occupants, a 15-year-old boy and 33-year-old Justin Mayes-Wiggs, tried fleeing the scene on foot but were quickly located. Inside of the vehicle, two other occupants were seriously injured and taken to the hospital where one was pronounced dead and the other remains in critical condition, police said.
The teen was also taken to the hospital for injuries though his involvement in the incident remains under investigation.
Mayes-Wiggs, a Neptune Township resident, was charged with multiple counts of criminal weapons possession after cops found two handguns in the vehicle.
The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General is investigating the vehicular pursuit while the Asbury Park Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the shooting and handgun recovery.
