WOODBRIDGE, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – An NYPD detective and a New Jersey police officer were shot and wounded in a police-involved shooting at a hotel in Middlesex County early Thursday that also left a New York City homicide suspect dead.

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin confirmed an NYPD detective and a Woodbridge police officer were shot in the altercation in Woodbridge. The detective was shot in the foot and the officer was shot in the back. They were both in stable condition.

The shootout happened around 12:30 a.m. at the parking lot shared by the Raritan Hotel and Royal Albert's Palace banquet hall, along a mostly industrial area of Kings George Post Road.

The cops were shot as they confronted a suspect who was wanted in connection with a homicide in Harlem a couple of weeks ago, officials said.

The suspect, who hasn't been identified, was shot and killed at the scene, according to Platkin.

Platkin said his office has been in communication with both the NYPD and Woodbridge Township Police Department. The Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is investigating, which is protocol in police-involved shootings.

"While we’re grateful for the brave and swift actions taken by all who responded, we also remember that no police officer – or any member of law enforcement – should ever face this violence while performing their duties," Platkin said in a press release.
