DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - A week after a mass exodus that saw Dallas part ways with longtime GM Donnie Nelson and coach Rick Carlisle, the Mavs are ready to move forward with Nico Harrison as the team's new head of basketball operations and general manager, and Jason Kidd as head coach, according to 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher and multiple others.

This will be Harrison’s first front-office job after previously serving as an executive at Nike. Through Nike, Harrison has developed strong relationships with players around the league, including superstar Luka Doncic, who has led the Mavs in scoring each year since arriving as the third overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft.

As for Kidd, the Hall-of-Fame point guard spent six of his 19 NBA seasons in Dallas, winning a championship with the Mavericks in 2011. This will be the 48-year-old’s third head-coaching job following previous stints with Brooklyn and Milwaukee. Kidd, who spent his past two seasons working as an assistant under Lakers head coach Frank Vogel, had also drawn interest from the Celtics, Pelicans and Trail Blazers. It was announced Thursday that Carlisle, who resigned from his position as Mavericks head coach last week, will return to Indiana, where he previously coached from 2003-07.

Still licking their wounds from a devastating first-round loss to the Clippers (who came back from an 0-2 series deficit to win in seven games), the Mavericks came under scrutiny earlier this month when The Athletic published a revealing profile detailing the organization’s dysfunction including a bitter feud between Doncic and analytics whiz Haralabos Voulgaris, who many felt was operating as a “shadow” GM of sorts. With coaching and front-office shakeups to account for and Kristaps Porzingis reportedly unhappy with his role (playing Robin to Doncic’s Batman has apparently been a difficult adjustment for the seven-footer), it should be a fascinating few months in Dallas.
