Cam Reddish just logged his heaviest workload since being traded to the Knicks, playing over 19 minutes in Thursday's win over the Warriors, and he showed flashes of promising potential.
Reddish checked in early, logging time in the first quarter after the bulk of his Knicks action has come in garbage time. He made four of his first five shots, finished 4-for-8 from the field, and scored 12 points while dishing out three assists and logging a pair of steals on the defensive end.
Head coach Tom Thibodeau, who made it clear after the trade that Reddish didn't have a clear role because of New York's established rotation, praised Reddish's performance on Thursday, and how he's handled his minimal role.
"Cam has been terrific," Thibodeau said. "We knew when we made the trade that there was a logjam, but his attitude has been terrific."
Reddish has heard his name chanted at MSG by fans who wanted to see him finally check into a game, and now, with RJ Barrett injured and the Knicks still shorthanded, he has logged double-digit minutes in each of the last three games. But Thibodeau says Reddish will still have to earn his time.
"He's gonna play based on performance," Thibodeau said. "It's how you practice that's important, how you conduct yourself, and you get what you earn. That's for everyone. That's why Quentin [Grimes] is out there…I don't buy into potential and all that. You get what you earn in this league."
