This is the ultimate McMansion.
A McDonald’s location in New York has caught the attention of the internet.
The site, located in New Hyde Park on Long Island, is a 19th century mansion that has been transformed into a McDonald’s franchise location.
Insider shared photos and historical info about the building, and dubbed the site the “most beautiful” McDonald’s in the country.
The site is fitted with the original portico, now enclosed in glass, where there are tables for diners to eat.
On the outside, a simple black McDonald’s sign is featured above the entrance.
The building also includes hardwood floors, a double staircase, and a main dining area with a high cathedral ceiling including wooden rafters.
While many classic features prevail, the site’s kitchen and cashier area is styled as a standard contemporary McDonald’s.
Fox News reports that the location was originally a farmhouse built in 1795 before it was transformed into a Georgian-style mansion in the 1860s.
When the fast-food company bought the building for $1 million in 1986, it was in disrepair. The chain planned to take the site down and build one of its restaurants, but was met with resistance by locals who didn’t want the building destroyed.
In 1988, it was designated a historical landmark. The chain agreed to restore the building rather than tear it down. However, it requested permission to build a drive-thru at the site, the New York Post reports.
The McDonald’s finally opened in 1991, marking the franchise's 12,000th location in the world.
