The South Carolina Department of Transportation’s Woodruff Road Congestion Relief Project is preparing to enter the next phase in its near decade-long project.

Documentation and outreach began in 2017. Now, after six years, Phase 4 of the project is set to begin this spring, which will consist of speaking to those with land in the path of the projected extension.

“The Woodruff Road Extension Project is designed to be a parallel, if you will, thoroughfare adjacent to Woodruff Road,” said Pete Poore, the Director of Communications at SCDOT. “I’m sure you know how congested the area can be, so this project is to provide an alternative route through the area. It’s an extension of a current parkway up there, which will be brought back around to Woodruff Road itself when it terminates.”

The SCDOT has graphics visually depicting and further details explaining the plans for the project on their website.

Poore said this phase of the project is expected to take roughly two years, with construction tentatively expected to begin in 2026.
