The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled Thursday against the mask mandate implemented by the city Columbia for the city's public schools.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson applauded the Supreme Court's decision, as well as their quick turnaround on it.

"We appreciate the Supreme Court’s quick ruling and its confirmation of our legal arguments," Wilson said in a press release. "The Court emphasized what we’ve been saying all along, that we are not arguing mask policy, we are arguing the rule of law. The Court has confirmed that a city ordinance cannot conflict with state law."

The ruling was unanimously against the mask mandate, saying it violated the 2021-2022 Appropriations Act Proviso 1.108 that banned mask mandates for K-12 schools.
