(670 The Score) Late in the fourth quarter of the Bears’ 37-17 win over the Falcons on Sunday, chants of "We want Fields" broke out at Soldier Field. Bears fans were expressing their support of third-year quarterback Justin Fields, whose future in Chicago is uncertain.
Bears safety Jaquan Brisker, who has long been a strong supporter of the 24-year-old Fields, took notice of the chants and appreciated their significance, as he told the Bernstein & Holmes Show on Tuesday.
“You could just feel it,” Brisker said. “This is the quarterback that they want. You could just tell that the fans really want him, we really want him and you can just feel that energy. If we keep this group together, it could be dangerous. That atmosphere these last couple home games, it feels like playoff football. It feels like we’re right there.
“It means a lot that the fans had his back, because we have his back. That’s all that matters. It means a lot to us. I know it’s not us that they’re screaming for, but we’re all on the same team, we’re all in the same boat. We want that guy, and it means the world to us that the fans are standing right behind him.”
Fields completed 20 of 32 passes for 268 yards and a touchdown while adding 45 rushing yards and a score on the ground Sunday. He paced a Bears offense that compiled 432 total yards against a Falcons defense that entered Sunday as a top-10 unit in the NFL.
Fields has thrown for 2,414 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 12 games this season. Two of his interceptions came on Hail Mary throws. With their win against the Falcons, the Bears improved to 7-9 and have now won seven of their past 12 games after an 0-4 start.
The Bears close out their season Sunday at 3:25 p.m. CT when they visit the rival Packers (8-8) at Lambeau Field.
