The spring meetings at Hilton Sandestin Beach wrapped up late May with school presidents, ADs, and coaches hashing out seismic changes. Central themes included playoff expansion, scheduling, governance, and fan behavior. Blake Toppmeyer, USA Today Senior SEC Reporter, joined Jeffrey Wright & Company with Jeffrey and Tim Murray on Friday's (6/6) show to recap the meetings and discuss SEC quarterbacks.

Listen Here:

College Football Playoff & Scheduling: The SEC reaffirmed support for expanding the CFP to 16 teams, pushing for four automatic bids for the Power Four. No formal commitment was made, but momentum is strong. The conference is holding off on adopting a ninth league game until CFP formats are finalized.

Governance & NCAA Ties: SEC schools signed an affiliation agreement binding them to the new College Sports Commission and NIL enforcement framework. The league also mulled calls for more autonomy within NCAA governance.

Fan Storming Penalties: A landmark new policy imposes a flat $500K fine on any stadium field‐storming incident, regardless of repeat offenses.

In all, the meetings underscored unity on playoff and governance reform, cautious steps on scheduling expansion, and a no‑nonsense approach to fan control.
