Spencer Strider reaches 200 strikeouts, breaks own MLB record in victory over Angels

Michael Harris II blasts two homers, Spencer Strider sets new strikeout record in a 5-1 triumph over the Los Angeles Angels

The Atlanta Braves had a fantastic performance, securing a 5-1 victory against the Los Angeles Angels. Spencer Strider was in top form, pitching into the seventh inning and ending the game with one earned run, an impressive ERA of 3.61, and nine strikeouts.

Strider's 200th strikeout of the season, particularly against superstar Shohei Ohtani, set a new record for the fastest pitcher to reach 200 strikeouts in a season. Strider's remarkable performance suggests he's on track to achieve an even more remarkable milestone of 300 strikeouts.

In his postgame interview, Strider humbly expressed that while striking out players like Ohtani was cool, his main focus is preventing the opposing offense from scoring. His dedication to his role as a pitcher and team player is evident in his mindset.

The Braves' offense was also firing on all cylinders, with the bottom of the lineup making significant contributions. Orlando Arcia hit a two-run homer, and Money Mike Harris II followed up with a solo homer in the seventh inning. Additionally, Matt Olson's sacrifice fly scored Ozzie Albies, and Harris had another solo homer earlier in the game, securing a comfortable 5-1 lead for the Braves.

Harris was asked about his success against the breaking ball, to which he attributed his success to simply seeing the ball well and being glad for it.

Next, the Braves will aim for a series win on Wednesday, with a game time of 12:20 p.m. on MLBTV. Fans can keep themselves updated with Atlanta Braves news and updates by tuning into 92.9 The Game on Audacy.com or the Audacy app.
