Ever since the clip of Marshall edge rusher Mike Green plowing over Oregon’s first-team All-American offensive lineman Josh Conerly Jr. went viral he’s been on every NFL team’s radar, and in Field Yates’ latest NFL mock draft he has Green, who led country in sacks this past season with 17, going to the Atlanta Falcons at number 15.
There’s no doubt this puts a smile on the face of Falcons fans who’ve wanted the Falcons to draft a pass rusher for years now, but what should make Atlanta fans smile even harder is that earlier today on The Morning Shift college football and NFL Draft analyst Mike Detillier doubled down and told Tiffany, Mike, and Beau why he’s high on the Marshall edge rusher.
“It doesn’t really matter where you went to school at he flourished last year at Marshall. I’m watching I guess about nine games in which he played. Every game he was an impact, and sometimes he was making an impact when he wasn’t making a play. He just scared the bejesus out of you every snap you know there were doing something to try to put a hat on a hat and most of the time he was getting chipped because they knew just how good he was.” Detillier said.
Mike continued by saying “The other part about his game that he does well is he plays the run well. He’s got really good instincts against the run, he sets the edge, and he has that ability to kind of trap you as a running back, so I think he’s a guy in the teens that you have to take a long look at, and he was the one guy in Mobile, he dominated, it didn’t matter who they put him up against, he was a dominating football player.”
Mike also called Green an “interesting athlete” that plays like “somebody shot him out of a cannon when the snap happens”. Mike also mentions that you can tell the Marshall edge rusher was a former high school wrestler because of how well he uses his arms and hands, and that also gives him a knack for “getting around bigger people”.
Falcons fans know all too well that the team has been searching for their next franchise pass rusher since John Abraham left, and if a knowledgeable draft analyst such as Mike Detillier is saying the Falcons need to take a “long look” at Green at number 15 overall then Terry Fontenot and the Falcons should definitely think long and hard about drafting Mike Green.
