Falcons need "veteran" HC if they go with young front office

As the Atlanta Falcons search for a President of Football, General Manager, and Head Coach continues it is becoming more and more clear by the day that former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is more than likely going to be Atlanta’s President of Football.

The former NFL MVP was a great quarterback, knows football, but doesn’t have any experience in an NFL front office, and if the Falcons decide to hire a first time General Manager that will be a lot of inexperience in the Falcons front office, so earlier today Falcons beat writer for The Athletic Josh Kendall joined The Morning Shift, and explained why he thinks the Falcons next head coach needs to be a “veteran” head coach more than anything.

“If I’m the Falcons I worry less about offense or defense and more about trying to find a veteran, because it looks to me like Matt Ryan, who is a first time NFL executive, is gonna be the President of Football. It makes a ton sense that somebody like Ian Cunnigham, who has some connections with Matt Ryan through Ryan Poles and is very well regarded is gonna be the GM, which would be his first time in that role, so if you got two newcomers, you know three rookies feels like a lot of rookies. Josh said.

If it plays out that way Kendall said having a head coach that can “provide some veteran context to the room” would be important.

A first time NFL executive, first time NFL General Manager, and first time NFL Head Coach would feel like maybe a little too much inexperience, so if Matt Ryan is in fact going to be the Falcons next President of Football, and depending on who they hire to be their next GM, if the Falcons can hire an experienced and proven head coach it might be for the best.
