While Atlanta Falcons’ second year quarterback, Michael Penix Jr. was impressive with his performance in his short stint as the team’s starting quarterback in the final three games of the 2024 season, it appears off the field, the Atlanta signal caller displays why he will be “easy to root for” not just this season, but throughout his career.
“If you don’t have a dog in the race as for what team you root for or cheer for in terms of individual players, if you’re in his presence, you root for him,” CBS football analyst, Bryant McFadden, told Carl Dukes and Mike Bell on Friday as he joined the afternoon duo and shared insight on his one on one interview with Penix Jr.
“The unique thing about Penix is even though he’s a rookie, he’s highly mature,” McFadden would later tell Dukes and Bell as they discussed how Penix Jr.’s time at Washington prepared him for his new role, which they all agree Penix Jr. showed signs of when he faced the Washington Commanders and led the Falcons on a game tying touchdown drive.
“That is a veteran strategy for a veteran quarterback. Manipulating the backer with your eyes, knowing exactly where you’re going with the football,” McFadden said of Penix Jr.’s football IQ displayed on the touchdown pass to Kyle Pitts. “That throw for me because of the situation was unbelievable,” McFadden added.
