As the Falcons’ turn the clock to next season, the dust has seemingly yet to settle on Raheem Morris’ first season as the team’s head coach. After what looked to be a promising, playoff bound season came to a disappointing end, Morris has found himself at the center of questions about his decision making on several matters, including the eventual benching of Kirk Cousins.
“I don’t see a net positive as a head coach”, Abe Gordon said on Wednesday as he sat in with Sandra Golden on “The Steakhouse” and they reacted to a recent article by CBS in which they graded Morris and the other first-year head coaches in the NFL this season as Morris received a grade of C-.
As they shared their thoughts on the Morris grade, which they both agreed was deserving,” Gordon noted Morris’ decision making was an outlier for his reasoning in believing the Falcons’ head coach should be graded low.
“Decisions made across the course of the season ultimately ended up in Raheem, in my opinion, having a net negative impact on this team and that’s a tough sell,” Gordon continued as he explained why “sticking with Cousins,” and how Morris handled the timeout situations in their loss to the Commanders were among the reasons “it just feels like a net negative,” for the Falcons’ head coach in his first year.
