The Atlanta Falcons went all in for Kirk Cousins. When you look at the contract numbers it’s clear Atlanta wasn’t going to be outbid for Cousins’ services, and it’s clear the former Minnesota Vikings signal-caller was the guy Terry Fontenot, Raheem Morris, and Zac Robinson wanted all along.
On Tuesday, former Falcons quarterback and current Atlanta Falcons Radio Network analyst Dave Archer explained why Kirk Cousins, Zac Robinson, and the Falcons offense will hit the ground running, and why Captain Kirk is the perfect fit for Atlanta’s offense.
“This is a guy in Cousins that’s coming not just from Minnesota, but also from Washington where he played in his first couple years in the league, said Archer. "He’s been in this system for the length of his career, and so the Sean McVay system, the Shanahan system, whatever you want to call it, now the Zac Robinson system here in Atlanta that’s what he’s been in his whole career. So this should be like falling off a wagon for him.”
Cousins’ experience in a Kyle Shanahan offense and a Sean McVay offense will allow he and Zac Robinson to speak the same language right away when it comes to scheme, because Robinson’s offense is going to be a similar adaptation to Shanahan’s and McVay’s offenses since Robinson is under the Shanahan/McVay umbrella. All that means the Falcons offense will be running at peak efficiency sooner rather than later.
Cousins' familiarity with Falcons Head Coach Raheem Morris and his familiarity with a Sean McVay type offense is exactly why he was Terry Fontenot, Raheem Morris, and Zac Robinson’s top quarterback choice all along, and why he is the perfect fit for the Atlanta Falcons’ offense.
