The Hawks are preparing for playoff basketball for the first time since the 2016 season. Whether they get in outright or play-in, interim head coach Nate McMillan has turned things around since taking over the organization with the record of 23-11 under his belt.
With the season winding down, Travis Schlenk and the Hawks organization will make their decision of filling the head coaching position by either officially making McMillan the next head coach of the Hawks, or they will move forward and begin the search for a new coach to fill that role. We all know that superstars of each team like LeBron James and Michael Jordan were included in these conversations and weighing in on what's best for the team.
Jarvis and Tenitra posed a question to the audience by asking, "Has Trae Young risen to superstar status that can allow him to impact the decision of who the Hawks' next coach is?" Jarvis weighed in with his thoughts by saying, "Based on what I've heard when Trae Young was on Woj's [Adrian Wojnarowski] podcast -- he [Trae Young] wants Nate McMillan as the next head coach, and the Hawks may feel the same way -- they just haven't made the decision just yet."
Tenitra co-signs with Jarvis by saying, "We know where this team was before March 2 and we know where this team is now. Night and day -- you have to lay that at the feet with Nate McMillan. Because of Trae Young's situation, you know that he's coming up on that second contract, you know that he is really a franchise player and you want him to be happy -- you want him to feel like he's evolving into a position where his voice is being heard -- yeah, I agree with you."
The Atlanta Hawks are now fifth in the Eastern Conference. They will take on the Washington Wizards, Monday, May 10. Tipoff is at 7:30 pm ET at State Farm Arena.
