The feeling around the NBA is that the Atlanta Hawks will either trade Trae Young or trade Dejounte Murray and build around whoever they decide to keep, with the number one overall pick the Hawks could even move on from both and completely start over, but the option that hasn’t really been talked about is if the Hawks should consider running it back with Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, and whoever they select with the number one overall pick. Earlier today The Morning Shift discussed if that should be an option the Hawks consider.
“It’s great to hear that their relationship is good and that their friends and they have all this mutual respect for one another. I don't know that that translates into actually playing good basketball on the floor. I think that there’s still something missing from that relationship, I'm not talking about a big man you know that can shoot that can space the floor I’m talking about just between those two. I mean it just seems like they play two different styles that don’t seem to work with one another.” Mike Johnson said
Beau Morgan doubled down on Mike’s sentiment, and talked about how both players seem unwilling to make any major changes when it comes to the way that they play.
“The problem for this team is one or both aren’t willing to change their style and play together and grow from it.”
Dejounte Murray was on Trae Young’s ‘From The Point’ podcast last month and it seems like they are indeed good friends off the court, but two things can be true, Trae Young and Dejounte Murray can be good friends, but they can also have playing styles that don’t blend well on the same team and that seems to be the case, at least that’s what we’ve seen up to this point.
The proof looks to be in the pudding, and at the end of the day the Hawks tried it but DejounTrae just doesn’t work.
