Could SEC be left out of the College Football Playoff this year?

The Morning Shift debates if there’s a scenario where SEC gets left out of the College Football Playoff this year

It’s a simple ‘win and you're in’ scenario for Georgia tomorrow. However, what if Alabama beats Georgia tomorrow in the SEC Championship Game? If Alabama, Michigan, Washington, Florida State, and Texas all win there’s a good chance that the SEC is left out of the College Football Playoff for the first time in the history of the Playoff because of Alabama’s loss to Texas earlier this season. Earlier today, The Morning Shift debated if there’s any chance the SEC gets left out of the College Football Playoff this year.

It all comes down to how much the committee values head to head. If Alabama beats Georgia they would hands down have the best win of the year in college football. However, if Texas wins the Big 12 Championship having beat the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa in September the committee could put Texas in the Playoff because the Longhorns would also be conference champions and have a head to head win over the Crimson Tide.

The committee will have arguably their toughest decision to make since the College Football Playoff started if this scenario comes to pass.
