The Florida Gators announced plans to begin a $400 Million renovation of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium (The Swamp) right as Georgia is set to wrap up the latest phase of their stadium upgrades, a $68.5 Million phase that's on track to finish.
UGA is winning recruiting battle after recruiting battle, the latest being 2024 Four Star OT Daniel Calhoun who announced his decision earlier today, and one of the biggest reasons is that Kirby Smart has made Georgia the trend-setting program in the SEC East.
"Facility-wise and a kid making a decision to go there or Georgia, South Carolina isn't better, Florida hasn't been better. Tennessee is close but they're not there, Missouri's certainly not there," says Carl Dukes. "I think we take for granted how different this program is compered to the other schools and how that's such a competitive advantage for Georgia and it feels like everybody else is following the the lead."
There was a time before Kirby Smart and even into his early years in Athens that Georgia trailed in many aspects of the program, facilities, weight room, nutrition, and other off-field areas, but that is no longer the case.
Georgia is now the trend setter in the SEC East, Tennessee might be close, and Florida is trying to catch up, but right now it's one of the biggest differences between UGA and their competition and Kirby Smart has made sure to use that when recruits need a deciding factor in their decisions.
