Former UGA QB Aaron Murray joined Dukes & Bell and talked about what he thinks about the crazy world of college football realignment and how it’s created a survive or die mentality.
When asked about what will happen to lesser football programs with conference realignment.
“I just think they’re not going to be at the same level, we look at the power five and group of five and we say the group of five survived and continue to play football. Obviously the big argument was how do we get them involved with the playoff at the end of the year and I think Cincinnati was well deserving to be there and I’ve been a big fan of what they’ve been able to do these past couple of years,” Murray said. “Football will still go on it’s not the same level and the TV money is not gonna be there, but with all the streaming ability with all the ESPN’s, Fox’s, and CBS’s and plus’s and this that and the other there’s always be people looking to consume more and more football. So I don’t think these other conferences, the ones that do end up surviving whether it is just say the Big Ten and the SEC and maybe the Big 12 survive stays along and who knows what happens to the ACC and Pac-12 but people will still wanna tune in and watch their football, people still want that entertainment especially in those areas and cities.”
Murray talked about how the SEC and Big Ten have separated themselves from other conferences.
“Right now it’s evolve or die and I think the SEC and the Big Ten have definitely put themselves in a situation where they are the brand and kinda the feeling is if you’re not apart of that brand you’re gonna get left behind.”
