On Thursday Andy & Randy reacted to the breaking news that the College Football Playoff’s Board of Managers formally approved the expansion of the playoffs to 12 teams in 2024.
"We're delighted to be moving forward," said CFP executive director Bill Hancock.
"When the board expanded the playoff beginning in 2026 and asked the CFP Management Committee to examine the feasibility of starting the new format earlier, the Management Committee went right to work. More teams and more access mean more excitement for fans, alumni, students and student-athletes. We appreciate the leaders of the six bowl games and the two future national championship game host cities for their cooperation. Everyone realized that this change is in the best interest of college football and pulled together to make it happen."
The first round of the 2024-25 playoff will take place during the week ending Saturday, December 21 and the CFP committee will attempt to schedule those first-round games later that week. Games will be hosted either at home stadiums of the highest-seeded teams in those games or other sites chosen by those programs for traveling purposes. The extra games are expected to generate approximately $450 million in revenue from ESPN for the CFP and its members.

“They just better be right about this. The games better matter,” said Randy.
“Here is why a 12-team playoff would help this weekend immediately because this weekend all 4 of the teams that are currently ranked in the Top 4 don’t benefit by playing in their football games this weekend,” said Andy.
“Georgia would be better off if there wasn’t an SEC Championship game. Georgia would be better off if their season was over. They don’t have anything to gain by winning this weekend,” Andy added.
Georgia and LSU face off in the SEC Championship at 4pm on CBS at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
