“If the defense can get more takeaways to give the offense opportunities and to deny scoring chances for the opponent, that’s the big thing,” was the response from NFL Network’s Steve Wyche as he joined 92-9 The Games Jon Chuckery on Thursday night as the two discussed the Atlanta Falcons. Wyche’s response stemmed from Chuckery’s question to him as to whether or not, second year quarterback, Desmond Ridder, has to be ‘great’ this upcoming season in order for the Falcons to make the playoffs.
“He’s got to be a guy who doesn’t turn the ball over,” Wyche added as he explained to Chuckery that he would not necessarily be over concerned with Ridder’s touchdown to interception ratio if he consistently driving his team into the red zone with the passing game and thus allowing Atlanta to rely on their running game from that point. “Don’t turn the ball over, give your team an opportunity to put points on the board even if they’re field goals,” Wyche told Chuckery.
