NOTE: The interviews with Yee were recorded prior to her dropping out of the governor’s race.

Former State Controller Betty Yee said California needed a "no-nonsense" approach to government. One of her slogans is actually: "Boring Betty. No crisis. No circus.”

The self-described “nerd” told Mike Simpson where she thinks the billions of dollars to combat homelessness went.

“ A lot of it went to things that I think our local governments, our cities and our counties really in earnest felt like we're going to work,” she said. “But a couple of things, with respect to the 24 billion or so now that the state has put forth, it is a wild number.”

Yee also shared how she plans to build affordable housing in the state.

“I think for me, one of the ways that we do it is the state can provide the funding,” she said. “We actually have a mess of different financing programs for building affordable housing. How do we become, you know, more efficient with the programs that we have? One-stop shop, developer comes in, one stop for all the different sources of financing that they need.”
