At a rally in Sun Valley for Hispanic Republicans, Hilton introduced a new strategy to close in on Xavier Becerra for California governor: Gloria Romero.
Romero, a contender for lieutenant governor and former Senate Democratic Majority Leader, will now campaign jointly with Hilton throughout the state.
The two candidates saidy they are friends who have spent years working together, making their partnership a “wonderful thing.”
“It's never been done in California before,” said Hilton. “Now you're going to have the golden ticket, my running mate Gloria Romero for lieutenant governor, and here we are. This is the team, Hilton-Romero.”
Becerra has about a 20-point lead over Hilton according to a recent UC Berkley IGS/ L.A. Times poll.
Hilton saidys having a Hispanic woman on the ticket will appeal not only to Hispanic voters but also to independent voters.
He said it will send a message that change is possible, while working constructively with legislative leaders in the future.
