A fan at the Wells Fargo Center for Game 2 of the Wizards-76ers playoff series added insult to injury — literally — late in the second half of the matchup with about as despicable an act as we've seen from the stands.
After Russell Westbrook suffered a potentially serious injury and was escorted off the floor and into the tunnel, popcorn rained down from above, understandably sending Westbrook into a rage.
Philadelphia 76ers announcers Marc Zumoff and Alaa Abdelnaby immediately denounced the behavior of that fan, calling it "just plain stupidity," and Twitter agreed.
Westbrook commented on the incident after the game, seeming to imply that the league should take action so that players are better protected from instances like this one.
Wells Fargo Center President of Business Operations Valerie Camillo released a statement after the game as well, calling it an example of "classless, unacceptable behavior" that won't be tolerated at the arena.
Westbrook left the game with 10 points, 11 assists, 6 rebounds and with his Wizards trailing by 17 points. The severity of his injury is not yet known.
