PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) The Pittsburgh Penguins have presented requests to Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf and the State Department of Health in hopes to allow fans back into PPG Paints Arena in the near future.
The request involves a plan to keep everyone safe within the arena and maxing capacity at 25%.
A 25% capacity crowd at PPG Paints Arena would equate to 4,596 people from the listed 18,387 for hockey games.
Currently, the arena is closed to spectators and limited to 500 people which include both team's players, coaches, employees, families, media, and arena workers.
Through each of the Penguins first 12 games, including 4 home games, have been played in empty arenas.
Most NHL arenas across the league have been playing in mostly empty stadiums with no fans, but that will soon start changing as New York state will begin allowing 10% capacity starting Feb. 23.
New York Teams will join the seven other NHL teams already allowing fans at limited capacity.
