People love the “Great Pittsburgh Pierogy Race. It’s one of the highlights of the Pirates in-game entertainment, but Fan Morning Show co-host Colin Dunlap has had enough of them.

“It’s good (but) it’s antiquated at this point, it’s played itself out,” said Dunlap on the show Wednesday morning.

But he doesn’t want to get rid of the race completely, he just wants to replace the pierogis with famous Pittsburgh figures ala The racing presidents down in Washington.

“Just get Pittsburgh historical characters that are more recognizable,” said Dunlap.

So now that we have an idea, what 4-5 characters do you pick?

Fred Rogers

Michael Keaton (with a Batman mask)

Andy Warhol

Andrew Carnegie

August Wilson

Arnold Palmer (with golf club)

H.J. Heinz (holding a bottle of ketchup)

Jeff Goldblum (being chased by an inflatable dinosaur)

Jonas Salk (with lab coat and syringe)

Wiz Khalifa

Bruno Sammartino

Jimmy Stewart

George Romero

Christina Aguilera

George Benson

Zachary Quinto (dressed as Spock)

We intentionally left out Penguins, Pirates and Steelers greats.

Jim Colony points out that you could have a rotating cast of characters, but you would need to have figures that would be recognized nationally, or you’ll have another incident like MLB Network’s Dan Plesac not knowing the name of the pierogis.

The pierogis debuted in 1999 with Potato Pete, Sauerkraut Saul and Cheese Chester, Jalapeno Hanna showed up a short time later. So after over 20 years, do you want to see a change?
