The Pitt Panthers men’s basketball program have lost a significant player to the transfer portal.
According to Verbal Commits, point guard Ithiel Horton has entered the portal.
Horton is the fifth Pitt player to enter the Portal so far this offseason.
Horton was the best three-point shooter on the team at 37.9 percent and he averaged 9.8 points a game for the Panthers.
Spending two years with Pitt after transferring from Delaware, Horton averaged 9.2 points a game over career with Pitt.
As the Post-Gazette’s Craig Meyer points out, Pitt has lost the most scholarship transfers to the portal in all the ACC.
Horton missed 19 games last season after he was suspended from a charge of aggravated assault on the South Side right before the season opener.
Charges were dismissed at the end of December and he played his first game during a loss to Louisville on January 5. Horton was suspended again after charges were filed again.
He accepted a plea that reduced his charges.
Pitt now has six scholarships for the 2022-23 season.
The news comes a day after Pitt AD Heather Lyke talked about her confidence in head coach Jeff Capel.
