
PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Last week he tied Wayne Gretzky for an NHL record, a week later Sidney Crosby tied Mario Lemieux for a Penguins record.
Crosby’s teammates have voted him the team’s Most Valuable Player Award for the 12th time and fourth consecutive season.
The 36-year-old leads the team in points with 86, goals with 40 and assists with 46. He is a pair of assists from becoming the 14th player with 1,000 in their career. He is a pair of points from joining the top 10 in NHL history in points. He also tied Gretzky by averaging at least a point per game for the 19th straight season.
A nominee for the Masterton Memorial Trophy, Crosby was also named the Pens ‘Players’ Player Award’ winner as voted by the players for a teammate that ‘exemplifies leadership both on and off the ice and id dedicated to teamwork’. It’s the sixth time the Cole Harbour native won that award.
