Penguins pick up first loss of the season to Canadiens

The Pittsburgh Penguins suffered their first loss of the season in heart-aching overtime loss.

The Penguins almost grabbed the first goal of the game when Danton Heinen made a shot off a loose puck that was first ruled a goal, but after review it was shown that the puck rattled off the post and not over the line.


The Penguins would make the push in the second period when a loose puck led to Patterson being able to pass to Malkin who hit a slap shot shot from the left.

Pens would capitalize again from Malkin almost immediately off a face-offs Rust hit Malkin who had an easy flick into the net.

It all started to fall apart in the third as Montreal Nick Suzuki scored almost instantly to make it a 2-1 game.

The game tied late when Cole Caufield  a slap shot after a cross rink pass from Jonathan Drouin to send Center Bell into a frenzy.

It would all end when Kirby Dach hit a tap-in from Sean Monahan only three minutes into overtime.

The Penguins fall to a 2-1 record. Evgeni Malkin and Bryan Rust each picked up two points with two goals and two assists respectively. The team I back in action on Thursday to host the LA Kings.
