PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – An injury to Marcus Pettersson was the last straw, the Pens made a move for a defenseman bringing back a former player Wednesday.
Pierre-Olivier Joseph returns after 23 games wit the St. Louis Blues where he only had a pair of assists and was a minus 7 playing a career-low 13:06 average ice time. Over the last four seasons, Joseph played 147 games with the Pens with eight goals and 29 assists and was a plus four. Only 25-years-old, his best season was 2022-23 where he played 75 games scoring five goals with 16 assists and a plus eight.
He's a left-handed shot which is what Pettersson is and has experience playing with Kris Letang. Recently rookie Owen Pickering has been paired with Letang, they could keep that the same, but it provides options. Joseph originally came to the Pens as part of the return for Phil Kessel from the Arizona Coyotes.
The Pens have won seven of its last 10 and plays at Nashville at 8p on Thursday.
