PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) After playing a single game following their return from the COVID protocol, defenseman Marcus Pettersson and Chad Ruhwedel have returned to the list.
Their return to the COVID protocol list is not for a new positive test or close contact, but rather Canada's national law that states a 14-day quarantine is mandatory following initial positive test.
The two were placed on the NHL's COVID protocol on Oct. 31, and the Penguins are set to face off agains the Ottawa Senators on Nov. 13; Just a day under two weeks.
With this news the Penguins recalled Juuso Riikola back from the AHL to fill in.
With the Canadian law, captain Sidney Crosby and defenseman Brian Dumoulin, who should be nearing a return themselves, can be ruled out for Saturday.
The Penguins also play on back-to-back days, and they've decided to make the sly move of leaving goalie Tristan Jarry in Pittsburgh while the team travels to Canada.
With the travel decision, the Penguins called up goalie Louis Domingue from the AHL Penguins.
Casey DeSmith is likely to start in net for the Penguins on Saturday.
The NHL Penguins will travel from one nations' capital to another from Saturday to Sunday; From Ottawa to Washington D.C.
The Pens face off against the Capitals on Sunday where Jarry will probably start.
