PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Sidney Crosby extended a record that only he has done in the history of the National Hockey League. No other player, not Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Gordie Howe, Alexander Ovechkin has accomplished this feat.
With a goal late in the first period Sunday to give the Pens the lead as he raced down the left side and blew one past goalie Daniil Tarasov, Crosby got his 70th point and became the only player in NHL history to average at least a point per game for 21 seasons.
Gretzky did it for 19 seasons, Howe for 17 seasons and Evgeni Malkin has 16 seasons following his assist on Rickard Rakell's power play goal late in the first period on Sunday.
Bryan Rust had one of the assists, the 500th point of his career.
