Pirates agree to terms with veteran lefty reliever

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – It’s not an impact bat, but according ESPN the Pirates added a veteran left-hander to the bullpen.

Gregory Soto agrees to a one-year $7.75 million contract after a 4.18 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 70 appearances last year with the Orioles and Mets. In 60.1 innings, the hard-throwing lefty struck out 70 and walked 24 with a 1-5 record.

The 6’1”, 234-pounder had a pair of really good seasons with Detroit in 2021 (6-3, 3.39 ERA, 62 appearances, 76 strikeouts and a .198 opposing batting average) and 2022 (2-11, 3.28 ERA, 64 appearances, 60 strikeouts in 60.1 innings).

Overall in 391 career MLB games Soto has a 4.26 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 378.1 innings.
