Andrew McCutchen is returning to the Pirates for a third-straight year.


Now a designated hitter, McCutchen is 38 and will enter his 17th season in the MLB.

According 93.7 The Fan's Dan Zangrilli , it's another one-year, $5 million deal.

This past September, McCutchen said this current Pirates team is close to a playoff push, but consistency is key.

"I like what we're presenting and what we're capable of," said McCutchen. "If we can be consistent, if we can stay healthy, if we can do the small things right, we'll put ourselves in a very good position to win ballgames."

McCutchen spent his first nine seasons with Pittsburgh before he was traded to the San Francisco Giants.

He returned in 2023 and has played on a one-year deal the past two seasons.

Last season McCutchen hit 20 home runs with 18 doubles in 120 games hitting .232. In 16 MLB seasons (11 with the Pirates) he has 2,152 hits, 429 doubles, 319 home runs, 1095 RBI and a career .367 on-base percentage.
