PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – He wasn’t selected to join the Pirates, but Endy Rodriguez was picked for a prestigious honor on Monday.
The Pirates catcher one of the first six named for the 2023 All-Star Futures Game in Seattle next Saturday, July 8 at 7p.
Ranked as the Pirates third best prospect by MLB Pipeline, Rodriguez is hitting .248 with 11 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 31 RBI for AAA Indianapolis this season. After dealing with an injury helping to a slow start, the switch-hitter is batting .271 in May with a .337 on-base percentage.
Pirates Honus Wagner Player of the Year in 2022 had a remarkable season that started in High-A Greensboro and finished with the Indians. Rodriguez hit .323 last year with 39 doubles, 25 home runs, 95 RBI and a .997 OPS. He came to the Pirates as part of the three-team Joe Musgrove trade to the Padres. The 23-year-old Dominican was originally signed by the Mets organization.
