A familiar part of PNC Park likely won't be up when the Pirates take the field for the home opener on Friday against the Chicago White Sox.
The Pirates Charities sign has been taken down.
Post-Gazette Pirates beat writer Jason Mackey says due to recent windy and bad weather, the sign "sustained some damage."
Mackey adds it was taken down out of precaution and that team could look into repairing it.
The originally went up in 2005 when the 2006 All-Star Game, held at PNC Park, was unveiled.
After the 2006 season, the sign was used to promote Pirates Charities.
A Pirates Charities parody account had a little bit of fun changing their profile to, in part, "currently on life support at an undisclosed location."
They also tweeted a photo of the sign ascending into heaven.
