PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – With all of the positives of Monday's win over San Diego, the Pirates lost a player. Bucs manager Derek Shelton confirmed on the Cook & Joe Show infielder Tucupita Marcano was placed on the injured list with a knee injury.

Shelton said we will know more about the severity of the injury later today. The 23-year-old was hitting .233 with a .276 OBP/.632 OPS with three home runs and 18 RBI. Bucs are expected to call up recently acquired infielder Alika Williams from AAA. Williams came to the Pirates from Tampa Bay in the trade of reliever Robert Stephenson in early June. In 36 games with Indy, the right-handed hitter had a .305 average with eight doubles, seven home runs and a .915 OPS.

Shelton said he could tell immediately Marcano was in significant pain after sliding. He called it the one disappointing point of the game. He said it was a good baseball play, that Marcano was being aggressive and it's unfortunate.
