According to Pirates Manager Derek Shelton, starting pitcher Jared Jones has a grade 2 lat strain.
Shelton told reporters the news before the Pirates begin a rare 4-game wrap around series with the New York Mets.
It will be about two weeks before Jones starts throwing again. After that, the Pirates will decide on when he can return.
After this coming week, it will be the All-Star break, so Jones will likely start throwing shortly after the Pirates begin the second half of the season.
The 22-year-old rookie is 5-6 on the season over 16 starts. He has a 3.56 ERA with 98 strikeouts over 91 innings pitched, a career high.
