PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Count a Pro Football Hall of Famer among those excited for Steelers fans they will sign quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

All-time great Michael Irvin saying on the NFL Network it was a great pickup for the Steelers.

"There is an opportunity now because he does have the ability make plays with his legs," Irvin said on the NFL Network.  "They are going to win football games with that defense.  Now, Mitch Trubisky, with Mike Tomlin on his sideline, we may see a whole new dude.  It's a chance to revive his career."

"I think it was a great pickup for Pittsburgh.  A great pickup for what was up there right now.  I think Trubisky has a great opportunity because you want to run the football and play great defense.  He can help with that."

Irvin says signing Trubisky means they may not look for another quarterback this year. He doesn't believe of the rumored first round picks-Kenny Pickett, Malik Willis, Matt Corral-that any of them have a bigger upside than Trubisky. Now it's whether the Steelers believe that or not.

NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo broke the story saying he's not sure if quarterback is still on the board for the Steelers now. Garafolo says there is 'a lot of excitement in the building' for getting Trubisky. There is a belief they may be able to tap into potential the Bears couldn't.

Garafolo called Trubisky the 'expected starter' on the NFL Network Monday.

Irvin says he expects a really strong AFC North again in 2022 saying the Bengals and Browns have already improved in free agency.
