Kid straight up asks Wilson why Denver didn't want him
Steelers Quarterback Russell Wilson is partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Western PA.
Wilson is working hard to prep for 2024.
He's also impacting the community and one of the ways is by partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of Western PA.
Wilson is making a $50,000 donation through his 'Why Not You' Foundation, which was started in 2014.
While kicking off a summer camp for kids, Wilson was asked a hard-hitting question by one camper.
"Why did you get traded to the Steelers," asked one child.
"Well, I was able to leave Denver and come here, I wanted to go to a team that had a really great opportunity to win it all and we have a great opportunity here," said Wilson. "I like the black and gold, it's been awesome so far.
Wilson was released by the Broncos after the 2023 season and was benched the last couple games of the year.
Denver will pay $39 million of his salary this season.
Wilson tells brother station KDKA Radio there's a significance behind the campaign slogan.
"My dad always used to always say why not you . . . when I was a young kid," said Wilson. "He's like son, you can play football and baseball, why not you."
The foundation is dedicated to education, children's health and fighting poverty empowering today's youth to lead with a "why not you" attitude.
The Steelers are holding Mini Camp this week. It's the last time the team will practice before Training Camp starts next month in Latrobe.
