PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers GM Omar Khan said he expects corner Joey Porter, Junior to return to practice now that he’s off the training camp injury list and play against Atlanta on September 13.
The two sides remain at odds though over a new contract for the fourth-year corner who is entering the final year of his contract. Talks between them have hit an impasse according to Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy.
Khan said he won’t negotiate publicly and will keep those conversations between the team and Porter, Junior.
“But Joey knows how we feel about him,” Khan said. “And I still hope Joey finishes his career here.”
Entering his fifth season as GM, Khan said the long-held Steelers policy of not negotiating contracts during the season will remain in place.
Steelers will practice a couple of times this week before a weekend off and then the first game week starting on Labor Day.
