Joe Flacco got off of his couple a couple weeks ago and has thrown 250 pass yard or more and two or more touchdowns in his first two starts for the Cleveland Browns.
A Steelers quarterback hasn’t done that since Ben Roethlisberger retired at the end of the 2021 season.
Flacco has 565 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions over the past two games.
Mitch Trubisky, in for the injured Kenny Pickett, has 463 yards over four games, one start, with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
That got Joe Starkey to start thinking, would Ben Roethlisberger be able to come off his couch/podcast and do better than Trubisky against Indianapolis on Saturday.
Producer Matt Koll says he doesn’t think Roethlisberger has kept in shape as well as Flacco, and would be tired by the fourth quarter, but Starkey says Trubisky would be too.
Starkey says he thinks Ben still has the arm strength and mentally has something that not many people at the position currently in the NFL have.
Obviously, Roethlisberger isn’t coming back, but it’s just another point of where the Steelers currently are at the quaterback position.
It’s been 47 games since a Steelers quarterback threw 300 or more yards and three touchdowns in a win.
That was Ben Roethlisberger on December 27, 2020. A 28-24 win against the Colts.
