PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Steelers have signed a free agent receiver out of the MAC.
Eastern Michigan WR Mathew Sexton gets an opportunity with the Steelers after going undrafted in 2020. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports the Bills and Patriots worked him out as well.
Sexton ran a low-4.3 40-yard dash at the Michigan State pro day last week. He also played in The Spring League in 2020, returning a punt and kickoff for a touchdown.
The 5'11", 175 pound receiver caught 100 passes at Eastern Michigan for 1335 yards and 9 touchdowns. His best season, 34-receptions for 508 yards as a senior in 2019. Sexton had a 54-yard TD reception against Illinois, a 75-yard TD against Purdue.
While he returned 21 kicks his first two years in college, Sexton was not a returner for his final two seasons. Sexton did have 26 career tackles on special teams, blocked two kicks and forced a fumble.
In high school in Michigan, Sexton won gold in the state 4x400 meter relay and finished second in the 4x800 relay. He averaged 25 yards a catch and 12.5 yards a carry with 99 career touchdowns.
