PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The minute you turn your ear from the radio, the Steelers seem to have made another move-nearly a dozen signings or agreed to contracts. How much salary cap room is left?
According to spotrac.com, the Steelers have slightly over $21 million still to spend for this season (that is estimating the Top 51 contracts). About eight-to-nine million dollars of that number will be needed to sign the incoming rookie class. It seems crazy to still have that much money, but they saved five million by releasing OL Zach Banner and spotrac.com is assuming the release of LB Joe Schobert saving eight million dollars. It's also important to remember the Steelers were able to rollover $7.7 million in savings from the 2021 season.
Steelers are looking to sign safety Minkah Fitzpatrick to an extension, they could use more than typical in the front end of the contract. Also, the roughly $21 million available is before any more player releases or contract restructuring.
Here are the contracts finalized on Wednesday (numbers courtesy of spotrac.com)
OT Chukwuma Okorafor 3-years, $29.25 million
G James Daniels 3-years, $26.5 million
